Gerlach Upsets Carroll in Surfing at Oceanside
OCEANSIDE —
Brad Gerlach, a 19-year-old, first-year pro from Huntington Beach High School, completed an improbable run to the title by defeating two-time World Champion Tom Carroll in two straight heats Sunday to win the Stubbies Pro International Surfing Tournament at Oceanside Harbor.
Gerlach, a resident of Leucadia, was unseeded in the tournament, but survived two days of trials before knocking off defending champion Shaun Tomson.
