First Woman Named to Florida Supreme Court

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. —
Appeals Court Judge Rosemary Barkett, a Mexican native who is a former nun and teacher, was named by Gov. Bob Graham on Wednesday as the first woman justice on the seven-member Florida Supreme Court.
“I’m delighted to be in this position but, at the same time, it adds a lot of responsibility to the job,” said Barkett, 46.
