A former NASA scientist accused of war crimes told the Justice Department he was aware that slave laborers he had forced to build Nazi rockets during World War II were dying of maltreatment, transcripts showed. The transcripts of the Justice Department’s interrogation of Arthur Rudolph, obtained by the World Jewish Congress, also revealed the German scientist said he had asked for slave laborers at the factory where he directed the production of Hitler’s V-2 rockets during World War II. Rudolph, a key figure in the U.S. Saturn 5 program, negotiated a deal with the Justice Department in 1983 and voluntarily left the United States in March, 1984, for Hamburg, West Germany.
