Jury Selection Completed for King’s Tax Trial
Jury selection was completed Friday in New York in the tax-evasion trial of Don King, the flamboyant promoter who has staged some of Muhammad Ali’s more memorable fights and the multimillion-dollar Michael Jackson rock tour.
Four men and eight women were chosen, as well as six alternates--one man and five women.
King, 54, and his secretary, Constance Harper, 52, vice president of Don King Productions--of which he is sole stockholder--have been accused of conspiring to skim $1 million in corporate receipts from boxing matches without reporting it.
The government has charged that most of the allegedly unreported income was taken at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, which had purchased various fight rights from King.
