International Panel to Address Cal Poly Design Lecture Series

The annual Monday Night Lecture Series presented by the School of Environmental Design at Cal Poly Pomona will offer weekly programs to the public starting Monday at 7:30 p.m. and continuing through Nov. 4.

Speakers include Jim Burns, Herbert McLaughlin, Jacqueline Leavitt, Antoine Predock, Sam Hall Kaplan and Jan Gehl.

Burns, a former senior editor of Progressive Architecture magazine and associate of Lawrence Halprin & Associates of San Francisco, will speak this Monday. Herbert McLaughlin, the Oct. 14 speaker, is a partner in the architectural firm of Kaplan/McLaughlin/Diaz Experience in San Francisco, and author of numerous books and journals.

Leavitt, speaking on Oct. 21, is an associate professor in the urban planning program of UCLA’s School of Architecture and Urban Planning and is a consultant to the Planning Group in Los Angeles.

Predock, who lectures Oct. 28, is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and has his own architectural practice in Albuquerque, N.M.; he is also winner of the Rome Prize Advanced Design Fellowship. Kaplan, who concludes the series on Nov. 4, is the urban design critic for the Los Angeles Times and has taught urban history and design at several universities.

Gehl, a visiting professor in the School of Environmental Design from the School of Architecture in the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, will speak to several architecture classes during his stay in Los Angeles.
