Two Southern California men were sentenced to prison after they pleaded guilty to charges that they accepted bribes from defense subcontractors. U.S. District Judge David Kenyon ordered Richard Floyd Herbert, 52, of Sepulveda to spend six months in prison after he admitted receiving a $2,000 bribe from the owner of a Chatsworth machine shop. Herbert was employed by Teledyne as vice president and general manager of its Arcadia operation. At a separate hearing, Daniel J. Gordon, 62, of El Segundo was sentenced to three months in prison by U.S. District Judge Pamela Ann Rymer. Gordon, formerly employed as a subcontractor administrator at Hughes Aircraft Co.’s El Segundo facility, admitted receiving at least $3,700 in bribes. The two were among 10 people indicted by a federal grand jury after an FBI investigation into kickbacks and bribes within Southern California’s defense industry. Seven men already have received sentences ranging from six months to three years in prison.
