San Juan Capistrano : District OKs Pact Giving Teachers a 5.4% Raise
A new two-year contract that will give teachers of the Capistrano Unified School District a 5.4% across-the-board salary increase has been approved by the district’s board of directors.
Teachers, represented by the Capistrano Unified Educators Assn., ratified terms of the agreement on Sept. 30 after working without a contract since June 30.
Corene Barr, a district spokeswoman, said the average teacher salary will be $31,546 under the new agreement, compared to the previous average of $29,930. Those figures, she said, do not include fringe benefits.
District officials also agreed at a meeting Monday night to reduce elementary school class sizes from 30 to 28 pupils, effective next September.
The new contract is retroactive to July 1.
