Intruder Draws Fine, Probation for Emmy Stunt

A Michigan man who jumped on-stage to accept the Emmy won by actress Betty Thomas of the “Hill Street Blues” television series has been fined $175 and placed on six months’ probation by Pasadena Municipal Judge Phillip Argento.

Barry Bremen, 38, reached the Pasadena Civic Auditorium stage before Thomas did last Sept. 22. He falsely told the audience she could not be present and accepted the award on her behalf.

But she was there--if somewhat dumbfounded. He was arrested backstage and later apologized to Thomas, the best supporting actress in a drama series.

Bremen pleaded no contest to interfering with an event and was sentenced Tuesday.
