A two-day meeting between North and South Korean Olympic officials held under the chairmanship of International Olympic Committee President Juan Antonio Samaranch in Lausanne, Switzerland, failed to produce an agreement on proposals that some 1988 Olympic events be held in North Korea. Another meeting was scheduled for January.

The North Koreans insisted that the Games be split 50-50 between the North and the South and be formally renamed the Pyongyang-Seoul Olympics.

The South Koreans said they would agree to only a few token events being held in the north.
