Placentia : Heritage Days Festival to Mark Its 21st Year

Share

About 22 years ago, staff and students of what was then Orange County State College, now Cal State Fullerton, couldn’t find a location in Fullerton for an elephant race. So they moved the hoedown to Placentia.

Folks from Fullerton, Placentia and nearby towns turned out to watch two elephants race at what is now the Tuffree Junior High School site. The next year, Placentia residents thought they should have a shebang of their own. And that is how Placentia’s Heritage Days celebration--which goes into its 21st year on Saturday--began.

“It all started with those two elephants. It was great fun,” said Rena Hagmaier, Heritage Festival Committee publicity chairwoman. Originally, the celebration lasted several days. Today, the event is limited to a one-day affair but retains its name of Heritage Days.

The festival will kick off with a Chamber of Commerce pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. The Heritage Days parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Palm Drive and Valencia Avenue and wind its way down Kraemer Boulevard to Bradford and Chapman avenues.
