La Palma : City Plans to Party Till the Cows Come Home
In February, 1965, residents of the City of Dairyland decided to change the name of their town to La Palma.
But in doing so, officials selected a city seal that contained both a palm tree--after which the new city was named--and a cow, a reminder of the days when the city was crowded with dairies.
That was 30 years ago, and this weekend, La Palma celebrates its third decade with an International Days festival.
Ethnic foods and entertainment featuring performers from throughout the world will be part of the celebration today and Sunday at Central Park, situated off Walker Street between La Palma Avenue and Orangethorpe Avenue.
A parade on Walker Street at 10 a.m. today will kick off the activities. La Palma International Days also will feature crafts, free games and activities for children. The party will run today from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
