The King County Council voted, 5-3, in Seattle to approve a new lease agreement with the Seattle Mariners for the Kingdome. Councilman Bob Grieve, voting against the new agreement, called it a “joke.”
Grieve said the Mariners are planning to leave, anyway, and that the new lease has an escape clause that will help them move to another city.
The county council’s action came on the heels of the Seattle City Council’s approval of a $220,000-a-year aid plan for the Mariners on the Kingdome lease.
