A San Diego County sheriff’s captain was injured Friday when a juvenile he stopped for questioning gunned his car, dragging the officer several feet, knocking him unconscious and running over his right foot.

Capt. Scott Boies of the Sheriff’s Department’s Lemon Grove station was treated at Grossmont Hospital and released about three hours after the mid-afternoon incident.

Boies was off duty when he observed the juvenile driving erratically on a street in Lakeside, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

He followed the car until it stopped in a driveway. While Boies had his arm through the car’s window, showing his identification to the driver, the driver gunned the car, the spokesman said. Boies was dragged, then flipped over, striking his head on the driveway. While he was lying on the ground unconscious, the driver ran over his right foot, the spokesman said.

Boies suffered abrasions, contusions, bruises and a strained neck, according to the Sheriff’s Department. The juvenile was arrested on a charge of vehicular assault with a deadly weapon and released to the custody of his parents, the spokesman said.
