Child’s Safety Seat

In response to Eric Friedheim’s column of Sept. 8, we want to emphasize to your readers that both children and adults should be buckled up when traveling by air particularly during takeoff and landing. The purpose of the safety seat is to prevent the child from being thrown against surfaces of the aircraft with the tremendous forces resulting from high speeds. If it is necessary to evacuate an aircraft, the entire safety seat can be quickly removed by releasing the regular safety belt.

All car safety seats manufactured in the United States since 1981 are approved by the Federal Aviation Administration for use during all phases of air travel.
