San Diego
A doctor at UC San Diego Medical Center was stabbed six times Monday afternoon by a man who barged into the hospital, San Diego police reported.
Vincent Prowell, 28, address unknown, entered UCSD Medial Center at 3:15 p.m. Monday looking for Dr. Lamont Paxton, a resident physician in trauma service, police said. After finding him, Prowell began stabbing Paxton with scissors, according to police reports.
Police gave this account: Hospital employee Joel Shapov heard Paxton calling for help and threw a glass container at Prowell to stop the attack. Prowell continued stabbing Paxton until Shapov struck him with a metal bar. Prowell then ran to a vacant room, where he was subdued by hospital security officers.
Paxton suffered six shallow stab wounds and did not require hospitalization, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Prowell was arrested by San Diego police.
