Meese’s View of Miranda Rule

My only disagreement with your excellent editorial is that it ends with the statement, “This man is a menace to the administration of justice . . .” That is true as far as it goes, but the real menace is the President who appointed him.

This is the President who shows his contempt for international law by rejecting the non-binding authority of the World Court, by packing the federal judiciary with ideologues who will do his bidding, by asking the courts to overturn hard-gained civil rights principles, and on and on.

The President with the help and guidance of Edwin Meese III is attempting to restructure the entire federal judicial system to ensure that his personal philosophies and beliefs will be inculcated in our government for all time. Presidents in the past (John Adams and Franklin D. Roosevelt) have attempted to do this and have failed. May history repeat itself.
