NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Actor Sean Penn pleaded no contest and received a 90-day suspended sentence and a $50 fine today on each of two charges of assaulting two journalists outside a Nashville hotel in June.
Penn, 24, said nothing during the two-minute hearing, in which his lawyer, Robert Sullivan, entered the plea on two misdemeanor charges of assault and battery.
His singer-wife, Madonna, did not accompany him to court.
Penn was charged with assault and battery after two Los Angeles-based British journalists said he attacked them as they photographed Penn and his bride-to-be outside the Maxwell House Hotel.
