Jim Fregosi, former manager of the Angels who has managed the Class AAA Louisville Redbirds to consecutive regular-season American Association pennants, has been given permission to discuss the vacant Pittsburgh Pirates’ managing job.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Roland Hemond, recently moved aside as general manager of the Chicago White Sox to make room for Ken Harrelson, is a candidate for the Pirates’ general manager position.
