Surfer Loses Hand to Shark Near Kauai Reef

LIHUE, Hawaii — A shark bit off a surfer’s hand and one-fourth of his forearm in the second shark attack in Hawaii in a week, police said. Joseph D. Thomson, 33, was attacked Friday near the reef on the north shore of Kauai.
