Governor to Keynote Builders Parley

Gov. George A. Deukmejian will be the keynote speaker at the 19th annual convention of the Building Industry Assn. of Southern California, which opens Wednesday at the Hilton Hotel in San Diego.

The five-day convention of the largest regional builder’s group in the country will cover topics related to sales and marketing, building trends and construction methodology.

Deukmejian is expected to discuss subjects related to affordability, affirmative action and the state of the housing industry in California. Sharing the podium with him will be Ira Norris, association president; Jack Shine, first vice president, and Jim Smirl, immediate past president.

“The Tug-of-War between Los Angeles/Orange County and San Diego County” will be explored Thursday by a panel moderated by Gary London of the Goodkin Group. Other panels will be on “What’s Hot & What’s Not in Southern California Commercial Real Estate Development” and “The Emergence of Master Planned Communities in Southern California.”

The annual golf and tennis tournaments, off-site tours and the installation of officers will take place. The convention will close next Sunday with a special breakfast featuring an audio-visual presentation from the 1984 Olympics.
