ROCK BANDS PLAN SHOW IN ANAHEIM

Rock bands Duran Duran and Culture Club will join in a Dec. 27 concert at Anaheim Stadium that will be broadcast around the world on radio and TV to a potential audience of 250 million, members of the two bands said Monday at a press conference in New York City.

But Anaheim Stadium general manager William Turner said Monday that no contract had been signed for the show. “They are one step ahead of us (in making the announcement),” Turner said. “We are holding a couple of dates open (for them) in December, but that’s all.”

In the United States, the concert will be shown on a pay-per-view basis on cable TV and through closed-circuit transmission in about 300 movie theaters and rock clubs, said TransWorld Concerts President Brad Borison, promoter of the event. Ticket information is expected to be released shortly.

Frank Russo, site promoter for the concert, said Anaheim Stadium was selected because of potentially favorable weather conditions in Southern California in December and because the stadium is equipped to handle the video transmission. “We held the press conference today (Monday) because all the band members were available in New York. We are finalizing negotiations and anticipate the contract will be signed shortly.”

Duran Duran members Simon LeBon, Nick Rhodes, Andy Taylor and John Taylor, and Culture Club lead singer Boy George, attended the conference at the Palladium in New York.
