Louisiana Gov. Edwin W. Edwards, who is on trial on federal racketeering and fraud charges, said on the courthouse steps in New Orleans that he is a candidate for reelection in 1987. He told a reporter: “I announced that last night to a group of about 600 screaming Cajuns in Opelousas.”
