GUATEMALA CITY — An earthquake registering 5.0 on the Richter scale shook much of the Pacific Coast section and parts of central Guatemala on Wednesday, but no major damage or injuries were reported, the National Seismological Institute said.
The temblor lasted about 20 seconds. The institute said its epicenter was located 99 miles southwest of the capital in the Pacific Ocean, close to the coastline of Retalhuleu province.
More than 25,000 people were killed in a quake Feb. 4, 1976, in Guatemala.
