Egypt’s Bid for U.S. Apology
Saleh overlooked the “serious damage and grievances” inflicted on American diplomats, plain citizens, educators and U.S. Marines by the senseless slaughter, kidnapings and hijackings committed these past months and years.
If these “packs of wild animals” represent Arab nations, then perhaps it was time for action to assert the credibility and image of Americans when the Reagan Administration took decisive action to intercept and attempt to prosecute the “inflicters of serious damage and grievances” on U.S. citizens.
Saleh described the peace process as being derailed by the Reagan Administration’s interception action. There is presently no peace in the Middle East--for example, the Beirut airport is an armed camp and off limits to any “humanized airline service.” Until the “so-called Arab nations” can reconcile and accept the reality that Israel is a “free nation” and must be included in all Arab diplomatic efforts, there will never be any peace in the Middle East.
No nation has any obligation to uphold commitments to a band of hijacking thugs.
