Suspected leftist guerrillas kidnaped El Salvador’s civil aviation chief Saturday, less than three days after rebels freed President Jose Napoleon Duarte’s abducted daughter, a military official said.

Lt. Col. Carlos Aviles, an army spokesman, said Col. Omar Napoleon Avalos, former commander of the Presidential Guard, was taken from his farm 20 miles east of San Salvador late in the afternoon by 10 men armed with M-16 assault rifles.

Avalos was driven away in a white pickup truck, he said.

Aviles had no immediate information on the identity of the abductors, but another military source said they had to belong to the leftist rebel movement that has been fighting to overthrow the government for more than five years.
