Pumping Lace Tricia Yeager jazzes up serious, 1.7-pound workout weights with lightning bolts and polka dots, sequins and lace. With or without the frills, weights intensify muscle toning, and Yeager even suggests strapping on a pair after exercise class, for parties or other outings where every move counts. Most of her WonderWeights styles are $19.95 a pair, at selected Parklane Hosiery stores. Midnight Mystique, pictured here, is $29.95 a pair.

There’s the Scrub Should a man use a face scrub? Actually, skin-care experts can’t seem to agree on whether anyone should. Some say scrubs help remove dead skin cells and make way for new, healthy skin underneath. Others say exfoliation dries the skin, encouraging wrinkles. Dr. James Sternberg, clinical professor of medicine and dermatology at UCLA, advises: “You may get a little more pliable, even-textured skin if you use an exfoliator. Start by using it only once a week. And if you notice any dryness in your complexion, stop.” The body scrub for men shown here is $9.50, the face scrub $8.50, both from Clinique. A Cut Above More on men comes by way of Little Joe Torrenueva, self-professed hair stylist to the stars. The cut he likes this fall for his clients--John Forsythe and Robert Wagner among them--is trimmed on the top and sides, but over the collar, up to four inches long, in back. And for a natural--not neat--look, he says, apply mousse to clean, damp hair, then toss and let dry. Torrenueva’s salon is on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.
