For those unfortunate souls unlucky (or maybe lucky) enough not to get MTV, KABC dealt the cruelest blow when it canceled “Goodnight L.A.” This avant-garde music video show dared to play new music, giving countless unsung groups their only chance of TV exposure. Adding insult to injury, KABC replaced the series with “Dick Clark’s Nighttime Bandstand,” an inane, sophomoric, leering exercise.
