The Unit 1 reactor at the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant resumed operation two days after it shut down automatically when a technician was removing a fuse. The reactor, one of two at the $5.6-billion facility, returned to 100% production of electricity after engineers restarted it, said Cheryle Johnson, spokeswoman for Pacific Gas & Electric Co. The Unit 2 reactor remained at 30% power production as part of a series of tests that must be performed before it is declared at full commercial operation, she added. The automatic shutdown of Unit 1 was considered minor, Johnson said.
