A Marine from Camp Pendleton was killed early Monday in Oceanside after he was run over by a North County Transit District bus he apparently was trying to catch, a police spokesman said.
Pvt. Henry Lee Ford, 23, suffered traumatic injuries to the head after he chased after the bus, which was making a U-turn in front of the North County Transit District Center at 195 South Tremont St. and fell under the rear wheels of the vehicle, said Sgt. Bill Krunglevich, Oceanside police spokesman.
The driver of the bus, Anthony Childs, apparently did not see Ford trying to catch the bus about 1:45 a.m. Monday, Krunglevich said, adding that Childs was also not aware that he ran over Ford until a dispatcher at the transit center radioed him.
The case was under investigation Monday, but appears to be accidental, Krunglevich said.
