A Los Angeles man was arrested for allegedly forging a $1,000 California lottery ticket and trying to collect the “winnings” at the lottery’s Southern California headquarters near Whittier. Bill Williams, 64, was arrested after he walked into the headquarters and presented a torn ticket to lottery officials, Don Gross, a lottery security agent, said. “He said he had a true and valid ticket that he tore in half in his excitement,” Gross said, but close evaluation of the ticket quickly revealed it had been altered. “It was certainly forged, a shoddy job,” Gross said. Williams, who claimed he bought the ticket Friday at a liquor store near his home in South Los Angeles, was booked on suspicion of forgery and attempted grand theft.
