The mother of slain basketball star Ben Wilson, commenting on a report that her son was offered $100,000 to attend an unidentified school, says he never would have accepted any illegal money to play college basketball.
Wilson, considered one of the nation’s top high school basketball players, was fatally shot last November during a sidewalk confrontation near Simeon Vocational High School in Chicago.
A copyright article Monday in the Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader quoted former DePaul assistant coach Kenny McReynolds as saying Wilson had been offered $100,000 to attend a particular school. But McReynolds says he doesn’t think Wilson would have taken the money.
