Hashish Smuggled Out of Holland in Flowers
A drug smuggling ring here used Dutch cut flowers destined for export to conceal hashish, police said Tuesday.
Seven people have been arrested after four months of investigation and cooperation with colleagues in Britain, where most of the hashish was sent, they said.
The hashish was packed with cut flowers such as tulips and freesias at the daily flower auction in Aalsmeer and exported immediately in refrigerated trucks, they said.
Police believe the smuggling operation may have lasted up to a year and made about $1.4 million, most of it from the British link.
