A Wilshire-area couple were arrested in the death of a 4-year-old boy whose body was found wrapped in plastic bags in a shallow desert grave near Fontana. Jorge Manzanares, 29, was booked for investigation of murder and his common-law wife, Victoria Ramos, 29, was booked for investigation of felony child endangering, Detective Sgt. Wayne Horton said. The mother of victim Jose Reyes, whose name was not released by police, apparently could not care for the child and asked a friend to look after him, Horton said, but the friend became ill and asked the defendants to take care of him. An autopsy determined the child had numerous broken bones, burns, lacerations and suffered from malnutrition, Horton said.
