Defense Secretary Caspar W. Weinberger scolded Navy Secretary John Lehman today for “injudicious and incorrect statements” he made in criticizing the government’s plea agreement with accused spies John and Michael Walker, who Lehman said should be “shot and hanged.”

In a statement, the Pentagon chief said in a rare public rebuke of his Navy chief that Lehman “now understands” he erred in making those remarks because he did not have the facts of the case before he spoke.
