New Commodore to Lead Fleet Based in L.B.

Commodore John J. Higginson has been assigned to take command in January of Naval Surface Group One at the Long Beach Naval Station.

Higginson will replace Commodore Robert Toney, who will be shifted to San Francisco early next year. It was announced earlier that Toney will serve as commander of the San Francisco Naval Base.

Higginson, 53, is current commander of Amphibious Group Three in San Diego. He enlisted in the Navy in 1956 and achieved the rank of commodore last March.
