Tish Sommers

Your editorial (Oct. 24) on Tish Sommers, co-founder of OWL (Older Women’s League) who died recently, was a fitting tribute to a remarkable woman.

Certainly, we of her era and age group will never forget what she and her partner, Laurie Shields, did to make the mid-life and older woman aware of her potential as a still viable force in the social economic and political arena of this country.

However, I feel that one of the greatest contributions made by these two women was to awaken the younger woman of today that by joining the forces of the so-called “older woman” that they would be protecting their future well-being.

Tish Sommers was a role model that any woman of any age group would do well to study and be grateful for. We were privileged to have had her here for too short a time--but what a time it was.
