One man was stabbed and at least two men suffered other injuries in a fight between backers of union election slates at the Teamsters Union office in Montebello. Police said the melee erupted in what was to have been a nominating session for officers of Teamsters Local 63, which represents 14,000 truck drivers, meat cutters, bakery and dairy workers in Southern California. Police said the fight was between supporters of the union local’s incumbent secretary-treasurer, Robert Marciel, and backers of a rival candidate, Jim Bender. Officers responding to a call at the union hall said they found three people who required hospital treatment, including Bender, who was released after treatment at Beverly Hospital in Montebello.
