Comerica, Michigan’s second-largest bank company, reported that it was ending its hostile takeover bid for Michigan National, saying that the long court action needed to seal the deal would have hurt its interstate banking prospects. Comerica proposed the merger with Michigan National, the state’s third-largest bank firm, in January. The proposal was rejected by Michigan National, which adopted anti-takeover measures in July. The merger of the two banks would have created Michigan’s biggest bank company.
