Anaheim : Senior Citizen Facility Given the Green Light

Senior citizens will have another congregate care facility to choose from after the City Council on Tuesday approved a 152-unit project.

City officials approved a proposal by Ibis Anaheim Ltd. for a facility at 200 West Freedman Way.

The project is one of at least five in the works for Anaheim’s older residents, according to Pat Whitaker, city housing finance director.

Last week, the council approved using $4 million in tax-exempt bonds to finance construction of a convalescent home on South Beach Boulevard. Developers also are planning a congregate care facility, where the elderly will have their own apartments but share a dining area.

Construction for the proposal approved Tuesday now awaits financing, Whitaker said. The developers may seek tax-exempt financing such as that approved last week for the convalescent home, she said.
