An indictment charging five people, including a Rutgers University professor, with having illegally exported $4 million in U.S. semiconductor and other electronic equipment to Hong Kong was returned by a federal grand jury in San Jose. U.S. Atty. Joseph Russoniello said Prof. Bansangh W. Lee was charged with conspiracy, making false statements, wire fraud and violation of the export act along with Philip Teik-Jan Tai, Chi Pak Lui, Ji Wei Sun and Walter Loi Shiang Chiu.
