10-Week-Old Girl Still Critical After Receiving New Liver
A 10-week-old recipient of a transplanted liver remained in critical condition Tuesday, and doctors said it may be several days before they know whether the girl’s operation was successful.
“She was in critical condition before the operation and she is still in critical condition,” said Barnes Hospital spokesman John R. Miller. “We won’t know whether she is out of the woods for another day or two.”
Dr. M. Wayne Flye, who performed the 12-hour transplant operation Sunday on Christine Holy of Fort Wayne, Ind., said the girl is the youngest person ever to undergo that operation.
