Smoke in an electrical system triggered fire alarms and sprinklers at the R.E. Ginna nuclear plant Wednesday, but no fire damage was detected, and the plant continued generating electricity, federal officials said.

The incident was classified “an unusual event” by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the lowest-level emergency classification, and was under investigation, said Samuel Collins, spokesman for the NRC in King-of-Prussia, Pa.
