The four schools in the Sandy (Ore.) School District were closed for lack of money after voters rejected a $2.2-million property-tax levy. The district board voted to request an emergency election on Nov. 26 to re-submit the tax increase to voters. The district has 1,444 students and 88 teachers, district Supt. Clark Lund said. The levy was defeated 1,269 to 1,304. Turnout was 42%. Eleven of 28 Oregon school levy proposals were defeated Tuesday.
