Cherokee Chief Backed as Assistant Interior Secretary

WASHINGTON —
On a voice vote without debate, the Senate Select Committee on Indian Affairs voted Thursday to recommend to the full Senate confirmation of Ross Swimmer, a banker from Talequah, Okla., and principal chief of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma, as assistant interior secretary for Indian affairs.
