Charm of West Adams

Share

The renovation of West Adams related by Laura Meyers (Nov. 3) brought back memories of those neighborhoods when I arrived in Los Angeles soon after World War II.

The St. James Armenian Church was located there and was the center of community activities open to all, as it is today at its present location on West Slauson Avenue. Among those who appreciated the warmth of St. James was writer William Saroyan. Its ambiance was also part of his heritage and reminded Saroyan of his growing-up years in Fresno.

It is good to know that West Adams’ charms of the past are now coming into their own.
