Construction has started on Griffin Towers, a $90-million, twin-tower office building in Santa Ana’s Hutton Centre development.

When completed late in 1989, the 570,000-square-foot complex will be the largest office project in Orange County, according to Roger Torriero, president of Griffin Realty Corp., developers of the complex with Ahmanson Commercial Development Co., Los Angeles. The development firm is called Metro Associates.

The first phase--consisting of a 12-story tower, a three-story atrium structure that will eventually connect twin towers and a six-story parking structure--is expected to be completed in the spring of 1987. Construction of the second phase--the second 12-story tower--is scheduled to start in the spring of 1988, with completion in the fall of 1989, Torriero said.
