The Nation : Tank Workers End Strike
United Auto Workers members ratified a contract with General Dynamics Corp., ending a three-state, 7-week-old strike by 5,000 workers that cut tank production in half. Exact voting figures were not available, but a company spokesman said the contract was ratified by 53% to 47%. The workers build M1 and M1A1 Army tanks under a contract scheduled for completion by 1991. The union pact boosts wages 2.25% in the first year, provides a 2.25% lump-sum payment in the second year and a 3% increase in the final year.
