The World : Nicaragua Denies Jailings

Share

A Nicaraguan Embassy spokeswoman said Nicaraguan employees of the U.S. Embassy in Managua have been questioned by security officials, but she denied U.S. charges of jailings and harassment. Spokeswoman Miriam Hooker said a formal reply to the State Department charges was delivered to U.S. Ambassador Harry Berghold in Managua by the Foreign Ministry. The reply, she said, takes issue with a protest from the State Department that said 14 Nicaraguan employees of the American Embassy had been jailed and harassed.
