The Pentagon has decided that defense contractors should not be allowed to bill taxpayers more than $75 a day for travel expenses, the same as federal employees get, Rep. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) said. The move will save taxpayers “millions and millions of dollars” a year and will prevent contractor billing abuses, such as charging taxpayers for expensive hotels or, in one case, billing the government for the cost of boarding an executive’s dog, Wyden said. The new rules will be published in the Federal Register today.
