A daughter of the Rev. Benjamin Weir, a former American hostage in Lebanon, and another American woman were killed when the bus they were riding in was hit by a train near Alexandria, the U.S. Consulate said today.

A consulate spokeswoman said Ann Weir and Kathryn Lorimer were aboard a Cairo-to-Alexandria express bus, the Golden Jet, when the accident occurred Sunday night. Five Egyptians were injured.

Weir, 24, and Lorimer, 27, were teachers at the Schutz American School in Alexandria, said Allan Kratz, a spokesman for the Presbyterian Church-USA in New York City.

Miss Weir’s father was released on Sept. 14 after more than 17 months as a captive of the Lebanese extremist group Islamic Jihad, or Islamic Holy War.
